Primary Guide

The Montessori Primary Guide is responsible for leading a Montessori classroom of children aged 3-6 years old. The guide will implement a Montessori curriculum that fosters the development of independence, creativity, and a love of learning in each child. They are expected to create a nurturing environment that fosters children’s social, emotional, and intellectual growth. Our classrooms are designed to incorporate both indoor and outdoor spaces and reflect our mission of environmental stewardship, sustainable agriculture, and free play in nature.

Key Responsibilities
-Plan and deliver Montessori lessons and activities that align with the needs and interests of each child in the classroom
-Observe and assess the progress of each child and adjust instruction and activities accordingly
-Create a prepared environment that promotes exploration, discovery, and independence
-Maintain order and cleanliness in the classroom
-Foster a culture of respect, kindness, and cooperation among the children
-Communicate regularly, both orally and in written format, with parents about their children’s progress and any concerns
-Participate in professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on Montessori philosophy and best practices
-Work collaboratively with other staff members to support the school’s mission and goals

Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
-Montessori Primary Certification from an accredited program preferred
-Experience leading a Montessori classroom preferred
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-Strong organizational and time management skills
-Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members
-First Aid and CPR certification preferred
-Ability to pass a criminal background check

Position details
Position Type: Full-time, 8am-4pm, M-F
Location: 4206 Belvoir Road, Marshall, VA 20115
Compensation: $45,000 per school year if trained; $20/hr if untrained; summer hours available with additional compensation

Working Conditions
The Montessori Primary Guide will work in a school environment with children aged 3-6 years old. The Guide may be required to stand or sit for long periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds.

Benefits
Competitive salary, paid days for sick and personal leave, scheduled time off for professional observations, three weeks’ vacation for winter and spring breaks, most federal holidays off, paid continuing education opportunities (with contract), and a supportive extended community.

Primary Assistant

The Montessori Primary Assistant is responsible for supporting the Montessori Primary Guide in the classroom with the goal of creating a nurturing, stimulating environment that supports the growth and development of each child. Our classrooms are designed to incorporate both indoor and outdoor spaces and reflect our mission of environmental stewardship, sustainable agriculture, and free play in nature.

Key Responsibilities
-Assist the Montessori Primary Guide in planning and delivering Montessori lessons and activities that align with the needs and interests of each child in the classroom
-Support the children in their exploration and discovery of the prepared environment
-Maintain order and cleanliness in the classroom
-Foster a culture of respect, kindness, and cooperation among the children
-Provide individual or small-group instruction as needed
-Assist with preparing materials and setting up the classroom
-Communicate regularly with the Montessori Primary Guide about children’s progress and any concerns
-Participate in professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on Montessori philosophy and best practices
-Work collaboratively with other staff members to support the school’s overall mission and goals

Qualifications
-High school diploma or equivalent
-Experience working with children in a Montessori or similar environment preferred
-Montessori training or willingness to undergo Montessori training
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-Strong organizational and time management skills
-Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members
-First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)

Extended Day Care Staff

Montessori Extended Day Care Program staff members are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children who attend Montessori programs after regular program hours. They are expected to create a nurturing environment that fosters children’s social, emotional, and intellectual growth.

Responsibilities
-Supervise children during Extended Day Care hours, including outdoor play, indoor activities, and snack time
-Maintain a safe and secure environment for children at all times
-Encourage children to engage in creative and educational activities that are in line with Montessori principles
-Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and other staff members to ensure consistency in children’s routines and needs
-Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and injuries
-Maintain a clean and organized Extended Day Care space
-Maintain an organized inventory of activity materials

Qualifications
-High school diploma, equivalent of high school diploma OR commensurate work experience
-Must demonstrate patience and a calm demeanor while establishing boundaries with children
-Experience working with children in a Montessori or other educational setting
-Openness to learning Montessori principles and philosophy
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities
-Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
